Victims of Domestic Violence Response Team
The Scotch Plains Police Department, in conjunction with the Clark, Fanwood, Westfield and Union County Police Departments and Project Protect of the Eastern Union County YWCA, is currently recruiting volunteers for a Victims of Domestic Violence Response Team.
Members of the Response Team will work in conjunction with the Police to provide support, information, and referral at the time of a domestic violence crisis. Projected start-up date for team operation is mid-2003. Project Protect and the Police Departments are committed to a muilti-racial, multi-ethnic team to serve the community in the best possible manner.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have access to transportation, posess a valid driver's license, be willing to serve a minimum of four 12 hour shifts per month, submit to background investigations including fingerprinting and have a strong desire to help others. A 40-hour mandatory intensive training course held over an eight-week period will be provided to successful applicants. The training will be conducted during evening and weekend hours. An understanding of domestic violence issues is a plus as is bilingual capability.
